Belated thanks. It was a titanic struggle and it went to the wire. Congratulations yourself on a very commendable performance, and to all competitors for another fine season of WFFL.

I can't tell you how pleased I am to have won the title again. I remember the first time I saw the trophy all those years ago, and thinking to myself that one day it would be mine. After numerous second places, I finally achieved my goal last year. I was extremely proud to receive the silverware in Newcastle and, as it adorned my hotel room beside my bed, it reminded me of those stories about Steven Gerrard and the European Cup.

Truth be told, I considered calling it a day. WFFL was teetering on the brink and, having reached the promised land, it would've been nice to go out on a high. The League continued, however, and I am delighted to have achieved further success. Doing the double was the icing on one hell of a cake.

The closing weeks of the season really brought home what WFFL means. The thought of losing that trophy (which, incidentally, I still keep beside my bed) filled me with trepidation. I can't describe the pressure I felt during those final few matches, and the ups and downs experienced as events on the field played out. When the final whistles blew and all was said and done, there was an incredible sense of both relief and joy.

And so to the future. Many years ago I had a vision for WFFL that, sadly, has never truly been realised. Now, with the loss of yet more core competitors, I do worry that WFFL will lose its identity. For me, it is as much about the people as it is the prize. But, the show must go on, and so will I.

WFFL. It's a way of life.
